God's Perfect Will and Gods' Permissive Will

Many of us often start doing things, making decisions and making choices about things that will affect our lives drastically, these include our careers, marriages, friendships and others. I have come to know that the most difficult thing to know in the process of making such decisions is whether what we doing or the choices we are making are in God's perfect will. There are two perspectives as pertains God's will:
1. God's perfect will
2.God's permissive will.
Gods perfect WILL is always preceded by sincere prayer and daily reading of scripture. God' permissive will comes into play when we rely on our own understanding and interpretation of events according to the knowledge and wisdom of men. In God's perfect will, we do not do anything towards establishing the course and mission of our vision we only ASK Him to provide and ours is to TRUST and OBEY.God becomes the initiator or author and charts the course of our way.  Selwyn Hughes said that as we are faithful in following the Lord, we can expect Him to reveal His special plan for our lives. Just as Nehemiah caught the vision of rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, so we, too, if we are ready and alert, will catch the vision of what God has specially equipped us to do. When Nehemiah caught the vision, he prayed and relied on God and sought to know what God's will was in regard to the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem. From then on we can see everything unfolding and God leading him to accomplish his mission.
Our problem at the present time is the "fast foods syndrome". We are impatient, sulky and always in a hurry. We want "a copy and paste" kind of life where we want to fashion our lives to that of our colleagues, neighbours, friends and the superstars whose lives seem to be happy and fulfilling. When we aggressively take this path God speaks to us in a small still voice to WAIT.but because of our timid faith we are ready to hop onto the next opportunity the same way we rush for the next bus or "matatu" even if it is full. God lets us go and see for ourselves just as He let Abraham to listen to Sarah and go get a child with their maid. This was God's permissive will.
If you WAIT and listen to God's small still voice, and read the  bible everyday, you will come across words like Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. The secret source of stamina and patience in the waiting here is prayer and DAILY reading of the Bible. In Romans 12:1-21 Paul wrote to us saying "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.
And in Hebrews 10: 35-39 we are encouraged to "Be Tough, but Patient". The Lord tells us;Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that you may do the will of God and receive what is promised. "For yet a little while, and the coming one shall come and shall not tarry; but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him." But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and keep their souls.
So my friends, before we make any decision, any choice of career, any commitment to a relationship, any decision to leave a church and join another, any venture into business, further education or even joining full time ministry, seek God's Perfect WILL.  However as you do this Selwyn Hughes admonishes us in this words; "I believe there are many of you who are living faithful lives for God, but you have never asked Him to show you the special thing He wants you to achieve for Him. And don't think of that special calling in terms of something that will bring you prestige and glamour - to do that will take you right off the track. If you have never done so before, ask the Lord right now to give you a vision of what He wants you to achieve for Him. Who knows - this could be, not just a new day, but a new beginning.
